Welcome to Compassionate Horse Rehabilitation & Training

My work is designed to improve horse wellbeing, confidence, and performance. Every horse is treated as a whole individual, with careful consideration given to their environment, nutrition, physical health, emotional well-being, and mental state.

At the heart of every session is genuine two-way communication between horse and human. Rather than simply "training" or "rehabilitating," I meet each horse where they are on that particular day. Some days they need physical development, while other days they need emotional support, relaxation, or simply to feel heard.

I never arrive with a rigid agenda. Instead, I bring a diverse range of knowledge and techniques that allow me to adapt to the horse in front of me. By listening to what each horse is communicating, I can choose the most appropriate approach for that moment. My priority is always to create a calm, safe, and positive experience where the horse feels relaxed, confident, and willing to engage.

Sessions may include emotional regulation, gentle body awareness, neutral touch, improving softness and responsiveness, balanced movement, and developing rhythm and coordination. I think of it as a conversation—or even a dance—where both horse and human learn to move together with trust, lightness, and understanding.

Every horse learns at their own pace. There are no shortcuts. In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to look for quick fixes, but horses don't learn that way. One of my favourite sayings is: "If you have five minutes, it will take all day. If you have all day, it will take five minutes." When horses aren't rushed or placed under unnecessary pressure, they learn more effectively, retain their confidence, and develop a lasting understanding rather than temporary compliance.

Building Partnerships, Not Dependence.

My goal isn't simply to train your horse for you. While I can provide ongoing training and rehabilitation if needed, my ultimate aim is to help you and your horse build a relationship that thrives long after our sessions together. Together, we'll establish your goals and create a pathway that supports both you and your horse. As your knowledge, confidence, and communication grow, you'll become more capable of working together independently—and ideally, you'll need me less over time.

This may feel different from more traditional training models, where a horse is sent away to return "finished." In reality, there is no such thing as a finished horse. Horses, like people, are constantly learning, adapting, and changing throughout their lives. Unfortunately, some horses return from intensive training appearing more polished on the surface while carrying new physical compensations, tension, or emotional stress underneath. This can happen at every level—from pleasure horses to elite competition horses—when the focus shifts from developing the horse correctly to achieving results.

The Importance of the Foundation.

A horse may be able to walk, trot, canter, perform lateral movements, trail ride, or compete successfully—but those abilities only tell part of the story. The more important questions are:

  • How do they move?
  • Are they balanced, relaxed, and comfortable?
  • Do they brace through their body or lean onto the forehand?
  • Do they transition smoothly with softness and self-carriage?
  • Can they go around a bend without losing balance?
  •  Are they mentally present, confident, and relaxed while working?

The quality of every movement matters far more than simply completing the movement itself. When we invest time in the small details, the bigger achievements become easier, healthier, and more sustainable. Strong foundations create willing, athletic horses that can perform with confidence rather than tension. Often, the most valuable work happens at the slowest pace.

For example, something as simple as touching a horse's face can become an important conversation. Instead of assuming they should simply tolerate grooming or handling, we slow down and observe. Does the horse enjoy the interaction? Are they comfortable? Are they showing subtle signs of concern or relaxation? When we truly listen to those responses, we open the door to deeper trust, clearer communication, and a stronger partnership.

Everything I do is built on mutual respect. My aim is to help horses feel heard and understood, while giving owners the knowledge and confidence to build lasting relationships based on trust, kindness, and clear communication.
